OKX Wallet Trader Mode is an advanced self-custodial trading mode. It uses a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to protect the signing process for automated trades, so you can use market orders, limit orders, take-profit and stop-loss orders, copy trading, and other supported features through OKX DEX while your assets remain in your onchain wallet.Trader Mode currently supports EVM and Solana networks. Check the product interface for the latest supported networks, accounts, order types, and features.

Important Reminder:

The Trader Mode feature is currently being upgraded and is being gradually rolled out through a gray release. This article is written based on the latest version of the Trader Mode feature. If your account has not yet been included in the gray release, the interface and actual user experience may still reflect the previous version and differ from the descriptions in this article. This is expected behavior. Once the feature is fully rolled out, you will be able to access the latest functionality.

What is Trader Mode?

Trader Modeis a key step forward in our mission to build the premier gateway to Web3. This innovation merges the security of true self-custody with powerful, automated trading features once exclusive to centralized platforms, all within your OKX Wallet.

The Best of Both Worlds: Uncompromised Control & Unmatched Sophistication

Powered by cutting-edge Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technology, Trader Mode acts as a secure, vault-like enclave within your wallet. It allows you to safely delegate advanced trading instructions — such as automated limit, take-profit, and stop-loss orders — while your private keys remain encrypted, inaccessible, and entirely under your control. Your assets never leave your custody; they simply work smarter for you.

What is TEE?

TEE stands for Trusted Execution Environment, a secure, isolated area inside modern hardware that's designed to protect sensitive data, even from the device's own operating system.

With OKX Wallet's Trader Mode, your private key is encrypted and stored inside TEE, where it can't be seen, copied, or extracted, not even by OKX Wallet.

How does Trader Mode work?

A Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) is an isolated, secure computing environment designed to protect private keys and transaction signing. After you enable Trader Mode:

  • Your private key is encrypted and stored in the TEE. Neither OKX Wallet nor third-party apps can view, copy, or export it.

  • You sign an order intent on your device, including the order type, token, amount, and trigger conditions.

  • When the order conditions are met, the TEE checks whether the transaction matches the order intent you signed.

  • The TEE signs and broadcasts the onchain transaction only after validation.

  • Other wallet actions, such as transfers and DApp interactions, continue to use the existing signing method and aren't executed through Trader Mode.

  • Networks that Trader Mode doesn't support and other wallet features aren't affected.

  • You're using the latest OKX Wallet app or browser extension.

  • The target account and network support Trader Mode.

  • Your wallet has enough trading assets and network fees.

  • You've reviewed the permission scope, activation period, and existing strategy orders.

Note: eligibility, activation periods, and supported features may change. Check the product interface for the latest information.

How do I enable Trader Mode for my account?

Method 1: create a new OKX Wallet Trader Mode account

You can create a new OKX Wallet Trader Mode account via the OKX Wallet app or browser extension.

  1. On the OKX Wallet app homepage, select the Wallet name

  2. Select a wallet, tap Add account >Add account with trader mode

  3. Choose enable period (7, 15, or 30 days), select Enable to complete the setup

Select the period and enable the account

Method 2: quickly enable Trader Mode for an OKX Wallet account

  1. On the OKX Wallet app homepage, select the Wallet name > Trader Mode

  2. Choose the Wallet and toggle on the account you want to enable

  3. Choose enable period (7, 15, or 30 days), select Enable to complete the setup

Method 3: enable Trader Mode for an OKX Wallet account via Manage wallet

  2. Choose the Wallet and account you want to enable, then tap More (three dots) on the right of the account

  3. Select Account with trader mode >Enable

  4. Choose enable period (7, 15, or 30 days), select Enable to complete the setup

Why is there enable period and asset value limit?

1. Asset value limit: 200,000 USD

If your seed phrase account is enabling Trader Mode for the first time, its total seed value should be ≤ 200,000 USD. This helps us monitor security at scale.

Note: after enabling, there is no balance limit.

2. Enable period: 7, 15, or 30 days

After the enable period passes, Trader Mode will be automatically disabled. Your private keys will also be automatically deleted from the TEE for safety reasons. This ensures unused private keys don't linger unnecessarily in the system. You can always extend the account's enabled status or re-enable your Trader Mode afterwards.

These measures reflect our security-first approach to self-custodial trading. As we scale, we'll gradually increase the balance cap and support longer enable periods.

How do I check if Trader Mode was disabled or it's about to be?

You can check your Trader Mode status in various areas, and the status is color-coded:

  • 🟢 Green = Enabled

  • 🟠 Orange = Disabling automatically in less than 3 days

  • ⚪️ Grey = Disabling

Status indicators appear in multiple sections of the wallet. Use them to manage your enabled status and avoid trading interruptions. If your Trader Mode is about to expire, you can manually renew it in advance.

  • 48 hours before expiration

    • When there are 48 hours remaining before your Trader Mode expires, the expiration time will display the date along with the label“Expiring soon.”

  • 24 hours before expiration

    • When there are 24 hours remaining before your Trader Mode expires, the expiration time will display a countdown timer along with the label“Expiring soon.”

How do I renew or re-enable my Trader Mode?

Open your OKX Web3 homepage, select Trader Mode to go to Trader Mode status page, selectEnable.

Select Enable to extend your Trader Mode enabled status

How do I trade with Trader Mode?

  1. Open an OKX DEX trading product that supports Trader Mode.

  2. Select the trading tokens and network.

A market order executes at the available market price when submitted. Conditional orders, such as limit and take-profit or stop-loss orders, execute only after their trigger conditions are met. The final result may be affected by price movements, slippage, liquidity, and network fees.

How are Trader Mode orders executed?

  1. Create and sign the order: Your device signs the order intent with your private key.

  2. Monitor trigger conditions: OKX DEX checks whether the market meets the order conditions.

  3. TEE validation and signing: The TEE checks whether the transaction matches the original order intent and signs valid transactions.

  4. Broadcast the onchain transaction: The signed transaction is sent to the blockchain network for execution.

When viewing open orders, you may be asked to sign a verification message to confirm that you control the wallet address. This verification doesn't display or transmit your actual private key.

Why are my orders paused, and how do I resume them?

Unexecuted strategy orders may be suspended if Trader Mode expires, requires an upgrade, or is undergoing maintenance. Suspended doesn't mean canceled.

  1. Check official OKX Wallet announcements or product notices.

  2. Update the OKX Wallet app or browser extension.

  3. Re-enable Trader Mode.

  4. Open your order list. Review whether the token, price, and trigger conditions for each suspended order are still appropriate.

  5. Select Resume for orders you still want to execute.

  6. Select Cancel for orders you no longer need.

Note: check the original order status before placing it again to avoid duplicate orders.

How do I manually disable my Trader Mode?

You can disable Trader Mode at any time using your wallet app or web extension. On the wallet homepage, select Trader Mode > Disable to disable it.

Select Disable from the Trader Mode status page

What happens during maintenance or upgrades?

  • Your Trader Mode might be temporarily disabled.

  • Advanced trading features will be unavailable and strategy orders might be suspended.

  • You won't be able to place or execute trades using your Trader Mode until the update is complete

What should I do after maintenance is complete ?

  • Access your account to confirm your Trader Mode status, and re-enable it.

  • You can resume any suspended orders that you have.

  • If prompted, you'll need to update your app or extension to the latest version.

These updates help keep your Trader Mode secure, stable, and equipped with the latest features. For more details of upgrades and maintenance, please check our official announcement page.

Has the wallet been audited and is the code open source?

Security comes first. Before opening the codebase, we've engaged a top-tier, independent security firm to complete a full audit. This ensures that when the code is released, it's already been thoroughly reviewed and hardened against vulnerabilities. Once the audit is finalized, the report will be published publicly and the code will be open-sourced — giving the community both transparency and confidence that what they're reviewing has already met the highest security standards.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Does enabling Trader Mode affect other networks or wallet features?

No. Trader Mode applies only to the networks and OKX DEX orders that the product currently supports. Transfers, DApp interactions, and unsupported networks continue to use the existing signing method.

Q: Do I still control my assets when using Trader Mode?

Yes. Your assets remain in your onchain wallet. Trader Mode uses the TEE to sign transactions that match your original order intent. You still need to protect your seed phrase and wallet access.

Q: Why do I need to sign a verification message to view open orders?

The signature verifies that you control the wallet address and prevents others from viewing your order and strategy information. The verification message doesn't expose your private key.

Q: Is my Trader Mode status synced between the app and browser extension?

The status of the same wallet can sync across supported platforms, but specific features may vary by version, platform, account, or region.

Q: Will removing a wallet from my device automatically disable Trader Mode?

No. Removing a local wallet doesn't necessarily change its onchain or TEE status. Review and disable Trader Mode if needed before removing the wallet. Use only your seed phrase or private key when re-importing it.

2. I've connected to my OKX Wallet Trader Mode. Why can't I see its status or use its features on the web?

Trader Mode features are not fully supported on the web interface alone. To access most Trader Mode features on the web, you must connect via the OKX Wallet browser extension.Note: Trader Mode status is synced across the app and extension, but feature availability may vary, and some features are currently available only in the OKX app.
